Our Core Values

Our school community identified three core, Christian, values that we believe should underpin every aspect of our work, play and relationships.  They are at the heart of everything we do and our commitment to providing the very best for the pupils in our care.  These were reviewed (by staff, governors, children and parents) in 2016 and it was agreed that they were still relevant to our aspiration for excellence.

Our Core Values are:

Respect:

Every member of our school community aims to demonstrate politeness, honour and care towards others, ourselves, the environment and our world.

Responsibility:

Every member of our community aims to demonstrate good judgement and the ability to act correctly and make decisions on our own.  We try to understand and demonstrate our understanding of the fact that actions have consequences.

Integrity:

Every member of our school community aims to consistently demonstrate honesty and tries hard to do what is morally right.  We tell the truth, own up to our mistakes and we know the importance of giving praise and receiving praise.

"We take care of each other and our school"

Our vision and our motto (we take care of each other and our school) are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Vision Statement

The whole school community was involved in the development of a new Vision Statement that would drive our Federated schools forward.  Thank you to everyone that contributed.  The ideas that we were given were fantastic and many have them have been incorporated into our ongoing improvement plans.

Condensing the ideas into a clear vision was very difficult.  We tried to make our new vision statement clear, goal and target focussed whilst incorporating the ideas that were given to us.  We wanted to be able to measure our progress towards the vision easily.

I am delighted to be able to advise you of our new, combined vision and aims for the next five years.  It is one that the whole school community will be focussing on relentlessly.

Canewdon and St. Nicholas CofE (VC) Primary Schools will provide excellent care alongside teaching and learning opportunities that enable all learners to undertake successful and fulfilling life journeys.

In order to achieve this, by July 2020, we aspire to have consistently achieved the following:

  1. Be recognised as a dynamic community of care whose foundations are based on Christian values where everyone is encouraged, challenged and inspired.  This will be validated by having been recognised as “outstanding” through internal, local community and external validation (for example OFSTED and SIAMS).
  2. Be in the top 10% of all schools nationally in terms of academic achievement and progress in all subjects and year groups, specifically the core subjects of English, maths and science.
  3. Provided an exceptional, inclusive teaching and learning environment.  This entitlement takes into account the needs of all learners whilst stimulating a love of learning and partnerships between the school, school community and wider school community.
